Appearance Essentials
Accent/Brand Color
Set your brand color here as a starting point. This color is used as the default for map markers, buttons, links, and selected states throughout the widget. You can always override specific elements later (like uploading custom map markers or setting individual button colors), but the accent color gives you a quick way to match your brand.
Font
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Font Name | Choose a specific font or use "Inherit from website" (default) to match your site |
| Font Size | X-Small (12px), Small (13px), Normal (14px), Medium (15px), Large (16px), X-Large (17px) |
Widget Height
Set the height in pixels. The widget automatically fills 100% width of its container.
To control width, adjust the container on your page using your page builder or site layout tools.
Location Selection Display
Choose how location details appear when selected:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Detail Panel | Details slide into a panel within the results list (default) |
| Map Popup | Details appear in a popup on the map above the marker |
Map Style & Markers
Map Style
Choose a visual style for your map:
| Style | Description |
|---|---|
| Default | Standard map with full color |
| Light Grayscale | Muted, clean look that emphasizes markers |
| Dark Grayscale | Dark theme for darker websites |
| Satellite | Aerial imagery |
| Accent Color Style | Applies your brand color as a tint |
| Custom Style | Use your own Mapbox Studio style (Mapbox only) |
Map Markers
Configure default marker color, upload custom icons, set different icons based on location tags, or enable marker clustering.
See the Custom Map Markers guide for detailed setup instructions.

Search & Map Functionality
Initial View
Default View:
- Show all locations: Map displays all locations, zoomed to fit
- Center on user location: Map starts centered on customer's approximate location (IP-based)
Request GPS Location Permission: Optionally ask for precise GPS access. If granted, overrides the default view with the customer's exact location.
Search Options
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Placeholder Text | Customize search bar placeholder (leave blank for default) |
| Restrict Countries | Limit suggestions to specific countries |
| Restrict Types | Limit to specific types: Address, ZIP/Postcode, Neighborhood, City, State/Province, Country |
| Keyword Suggestions | Include matching location names alongside geographic suggestions |
| GPS Button | Show a location icon button for one-click "find nearby" |
Keyword Suggestions adds your location names to the search autocomplete. When customers type, matching location names appear alongside geographic suggestions. Selecting a location name centers the map on that location and shows nearby results. Works well for provider directories, named franchises, or any locator where customers might search by a specific location's name.
Keyword Search Bar
Add a separate search field that filters results by keyword. Unlike the main search bar (which centers the map on a geographic area and sorts by proximity), this filters your location result list by name or other text content.
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Enable | Adds a second search input for keyword filtering |
| Placeholder Text | Custom placeholder for the keyword field |
Customers can use both together: search a zip code to find nearby locations, then filter by name using the keyword bar. Works alongside any tag filters you've set up.
Display Options
Show Search Point on Map: Display a marker showing where the customer searched or their current location.
Filter Options
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Hide Filters | Remove all filter dropdowns from the search area |
| Filter Logic | AND (must match all), OR (match any), or OR within/AND across filters |
See Filters & Tags for setting up and managing filters.
Radius & Limit Settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Default Radius | Initial search radius |
| Hide Radius Filter | Remove the radius dropdown |
| Distance Unit | Auto (based on location), Miles, or Kilometers |
| Radius Options | Configure which options appear in the dropdown |
| Focus on Nearest | Zoom to show X nearest locations after search |
| Limit Results | Cap the maximum results displayed |
For a simpler locator: set a large default radius, hide the radius filter, and set "Focus on Nearest" to 3-5. This shows nearby locations first while keeping all locations accessible.
Need more control than radius and distance? Spotlight lets you define service areas, assign exclusive territories, show custom messages based on where customers search, and more.
Results Settings
No Results Message: Customize the message when no locations are found. Supports basic HTML. Use {{radius}} and {{units}} placeholders.
Phrases
Customizing Text Labels

Multi-Language Support
Create a multilingual locator for international audiences:
- Click Add Language
- Select a language
- Enter translations for each phrase
The widget automatically detects customer language from browser settings. For sites with language switchers, you can force a specific language via embed code. See Embed Code Options.
