Priority sorting lets you control which locations appear at the top of search results. Instead of always showing the closest locations first, you can boost locations with specific tags to the top.
How It Works
When a customer searches, results are normally sorted by distance. Priority sorting changes this by boosting locations with a specific tag to the top, within a distance limit you set.
The distance limit ensures priority locations don't dominate results when a customer is far away. For example, if your priority radius is 25 miles and a customer searches 100 miles away, your priority locations won't appear at the top since they're outside the range.
Before You Start
Priority sorting uses tags to identify which locations to boost. Before setting up priority rules, add a tag to the locations you want to prioritize (e.g., "premium-partner"). You can also include tags when importing from a spreadsheet or via Google Sheets sync.
Setting Up a Priority Rule
- Go to Priority Sorting
- Click Add A Tag Priority Sorting Rule
- Select the tag you want to prioritize (e.g., "premium-partner")
- Set the distance in miles (e.g., 25)
- Click Save Changes
Locations with that tag will now appear at the top of results when they're within the distance limit of the customer's search.
You can use tags purely for priority sorting without showing them to customers. In your tag group settings, enable "Hide Filter" and "Don't Show In Location Details" to keep the tag hidden.
Multiple Rules
Create multiple priority rules to set a hierarchy. Rules are processed top to bottom, and you can drag to reorder them.
For example:
- Prioritize "flagship" within 50 miles
- Prioritize "premium-partner" within 25 miles
Flagship stores appear first, then Premium Partners, then everyone else by distance.
Example: Dealer Network
A manufacturer wants Premium Partners to appear first, then Certified Dealers.
| Rule Order | Tag | Distance |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | premium-partner | 50 miles |
| 2 | certified-dealer | 25 miles |
Customers see Premium Partners at the top (within 50 miles), then Certified Dealers, then everyone else by distance.
Spotlight lets you boost locations based on other conditions: specific geographic areas, which filters a customer selected, date ranges for seasonal promotions, or when a location appears in the top results. You can also show promotional banners and cards alongside boosted locations.
